(May Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace)

The Virtues of Tahmeed, Tahleel and Tasbeeh

Tahmeed is to say ‘Al-hamdu lillãhi, Tahleel is to say Lã ‘ilaaha ‘illaa ‘allaahu, and Tasbeeh is to say Subhana ‘allaahi.

 

1. The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said: 

“Whoever says: 

لَا إِلهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ

وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ.

(None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, having no partner.

Sovereignty is His, and all praise is for Him, and He has full power over everything)

100 times would get the reward of manumitting (to free from slavery) ten slaves, one hundred good deeds would be written for him, one hundred sins would be remitted from him, it would be a shield for him from the Shaytaan that day till night, and nobody would arrive with better than what he arrived with except for one that had done more than him.”

 2. The Prophet (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said: “Whoever says, 

 

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِه.

 (I declare Allaah free of all imperfections, and all praise is for Him)

100 times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were like the foam of the Sea.”

 3. The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said:

 “There are two phrases which are light on the tongue, heavy in the balance, and beloved to the All Merciful; 

 سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِه.

(I declare Allaah free of all imperfections, and all praise is for Him)

 (I declare Allaah free of all imperfections, the Magnificent)

4. The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said: “The most beloved words to Allah the Exalted are four, it harms you not with which you begin: 


سُبْحَانَ اللهِ،


وَالْحَمْدُ اللهِ،


وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله،


وَاللهُ أَكْبَر.

 (I declare Allaah free of all imperfections, and all praise be to Allaah, there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and Allaah is greater [than all])

5. The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said:

“Is one of you unable to gain 1,000 merits in a day?” One of those sitting with him then asked: “How can one of us gain 1,000 merits?” He said: “By making 100 tasbeehas (saying Subhaan ‘allaahi), 1,000 merits would be written for him, or 1,000 demerits would be remitted from him.”

6. It is reported by the way of ‘um ‘al-mu’mineen Juwayriyah (May Allah be pleased with her), that the Prophet (صلي الله عليه و سلم) left her place at an early time as he was about to pray the Subh Prayer.  She was in her prayer area; he returned after he had entered upon the time of Dhuhaa (refers to the time period after the Sun reveals itself and before noon) and she was sitting. 

He said: “Are you still in that state I left you upon?” She said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said:

“After I left you, I repeated four phrases, three times.  If these were balanced against what you have said since the beginning of this day they would weigh (or, the Arabic allows, outweigh) them: 

 

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَدَدَ خَلْقِهِ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رِضَا نَفْسِهِ،

 سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ زِنَةَ عَرْشِهِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ مِدَادَ كَلِمَاتِهِ.

 

‘I declare Allaah free of all imperfections, as much as the number of His creation,

and as He himself is pleased with and as much as the weight of His Throne,

and as plentiful as His words.’

7. He (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said to an A’raabee (a bedouin) “Say:

(There is none who has the right to be worshipped except Allaah alone, no partners does He have, Allaah is greater very great, all praise be to Allaah plentifully, I declare Allaah free of all imperfections,the Lord of the Worlds, there is neither might nor strength except by Allaah)

He said: Those are for my Lord, so what is for me? He said: “Say

(O Allaah forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me,

keep me safe [from afflictions], and provide for me)

8. The Prophet (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said “I met Ibraaheem on the night I was taken on my night journey (night of Israa).  So he said: 

O’ Muhammad! Convey to your nation As-Salaam from me, and inform them that Paradise is of good soil, palatable water, and it is a flat place and it’s enplantment [is]:


سُبْحَانَ اللهِ،


وَالْحَمْدُ لله،


وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله،


وَاللهُ أَكْبَر.

 (I declare Allaah free of all imperfections, and all praise be to Allaah, there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and Allaah is greater [than all])

9. The Messenger of Allaah (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said :”Shan’t I guide you to a treasure among the treasures of Paradise?.  I said: Yes O’ Messenger of Allaah.

He said: “Say


لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاََّ بِٱللَّهِ

(There is neither might, nor strength except by Allaah)
